Hi, I have two 401K accounts for myself and my wife that I setup in Moneydance. I have done the following separately for each account: • Created Investment accounts in Moneydance. Mac os 10.12 sierra download.

Any version of Quicken 2016 or later. Internet Access. Your American Century Investments account number (individual, joint, IRA, or Trust accounts only).
One for myself. One for my wife. I started each account with a total value of the account at the close of business the day prior to the start date I used for Moneydance. The values I obtained manually online using Fidelity. • Created a listing of each security under Moneydance Tools/Securities.
These are primarily private institutional funds under Fidelity NetBenefits so I update the price manually for each fund. • Successfully linked to Fidelity NetBenefits and associated each Moneydance investment account with the correct Fidelity accounts.
• Successfully downloaded shares directly from Fidelity. • Moneydance accurately reflects the number of shares and the value of each share. I simply wish to have a summary and listing of the TOTAL PORTFOLIO VALUE for my wife and myself.
Instead, I see listings of Portfolio Value, Cost Basis,% Change, Cash Balance, and Total. Cost Basis is really not relevant. For these 401K accounts, in reports and summaries, all I'm really seeing is huge negative cash balances, which are not only confusing to me but they don't reflect what I'm trying to see. I simply want a report and top level summary that shows net worth! Your handling of these accounts is fixated on Cost Basis. This is not relevant to me and is extremely confusing.
I have all the info I need directly from Fidelity and elsewhere related to fund performance. What I have done in the interim is create two other ASSET accounts. I take the total value of accounts from Fidelity and enter them manually in these two accounts.
While it meets an immediate need, it is a hassle because I need to manually log into Fidelity and do this work. Is there something I'm missing or something that can be done with the Investment account in Moneydance so that it really reflects the Portfolio value, which is what I'm most interested in? This had worked just fine for me in Quicken for many years.

Thanks, Steve. Hi Steve, Setting up 401k's can sometimes be tricky, so I apologize that it all seems so muddled right now.
I can hopefully clarify, but these things can be a little peculiar, so if I miss the point let me know and we can try again. Your cash value is in the negative most likely because you are not accounting for the history of cash transfers into your 401k account. At this point it looks like to Moneydance that you bought most of your shares on credit with your brokerage and therefore you owe money to them.
This is why the total value/net worth of your account is also off, because the value of your shares is balanced against the debt of purchase. The reason this came about is because when you downloaded your transaction history from Fidelity you only download your most recent transactions. (Often 90 days). You are potentially missing years of cash transfers into that account.
